Colorescience is a great brand if you’re looking for SPF in your makeup. Most of the face products contain SPF, as well as some concealers and lip gloss. We all know how hard it can be to find a sunscreen that works for your skin type. And unfortunately, there aren’t as many cruelty-free sunscreens as there should be. Is Colorescience cruelty-free?
Is Colorescience Cruelty-Free?
I was so happy with the response I received from Colorescience. See below!
Hello Ashleigh and Thank You for your Colorescience inquiry.
We do understand your concern and are committed to the highest standards when choosing raw materials for our formulations. Colorescience has never tested our finished good products on animals and we require non-animal testing statements on all raw materials before final formula approval.
In order to register and distribute our products in global markets, we have received non animal testing statements which ensure raw materials have not been tested on animals for cosmetic purposes since at least 2009. Most companies have never tested their raw materials on animals but if a raw material is also used in pharmaceutical drug formulations then there is an exception as this would fall outside ‘cosmetic purpose’. This is why we are cautious to state all ingredients have never been tested on animals. Please know Colorescience continuously monitors global standards on animal testing and it is clear standards are aligning toward a definitive prohibition on any animal testing for cosmetic purposes even if alternative methods do not exist.
Colorescience does use plastic components that are made in china however our finished goods are manufactured in the U.S. and anything exported to other countries is manufactured in the US.
We hope this helps clarify our transparency on this issue and please feel free to reach out to us if you have any further questions on this important issue.
The bolded portion of their response is the only thing that left me with other questions. They didn’t directly state that they do not sell in mainland China. After doing some digging, I found that they do sell products in one store in Hong Kong – where China’s mandatory testing law does not apply – but do not sell products in mainland China.
I really appreciate Colorescience’s transparency. I ask simple Yes or No questions to keep it simple. When a brand takes the time to explain their animal testing stance and policies it leaves me much more confident that they’re doing the right thing.
Must-Try from Colorescience
Their most recognizable product is the Sunforgettable Mineral Brush On Sunscreen with SPF 50. This is a unique product that dispenses mineral powder containing SPF from the attached brush. Re-applying sunscreen just got SO much easier!
