NARS is a powerhouse in the beauty industry and has been a reliable cruelty-free brand. In 2017 they will begin selling in China. Is NARS still cruelty-free?
Unfortunately, no. Selling in China means they will have to participate in animal testing by law. It’s so disappointing to see what was a huge name in cruelty-free makeup selling out. Check out all the information and find some dupes.
Is NARS Cruelty-Free?
No. NARS has updated their FAQ page to reflect their new animal testing policy:
NARS does not test on animals nor do we ask others to test on our behalf, except where required by law. NARS is actively working with industry and other partners to eliminate animal testing globally and is committed to the development and acceptance of alternative methods. We are equally dedicated to the health and safety of our consumers ensuring we meet the highest in quality standards. We remain committed to bringing our vision of beauty and artistry to more fans around the globe, as part of our long-held commitment to empower women everywhere.
Tashina from Logical Harmony received?a statement confirming that NARS will be “launching in China later this year and local regulations mandate animal testing on imported cosmetics.”
They also gave her this statement:
Thank you for reaching out. NARS is excited to bring our vision of beauty and artistry to fans in China, consistent with our long-held commitment to empower women and men everywhere. NARS does not test on animals or ask others to do so on our behalf, except where required by law. We are subject to the local laws of the markets in which we operate, including in China where products are subject to animal testing.
I never even got to try NARS. At least there are dupes. JKissa on YouTube just made an entire video dedicated to cruelty-free NARS dupes, check it out! I’ve got some of her pick below as well as a few other dupes.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
I had a dupe and didn’t even know it! I’ve wanted to try out the infamous creamy concealer forever, but now I don’t have to feel bad for missing out. The HD Concealer from NYX is a great dupe for the Radiant Creamy Concealer. Check out my full review of the HD Concealer here!
NARS Dual-Intensity in Lysithea
NARS eyeshadows were never on my radar, but JKissa found some beautiful dupes for a few shades.
NARS Orgasm Blush
NYX’s Powder Blush in Rose Garden is a great (and reasonably priced!) cruelty free alternative to the cult classic blush.
NARS Laguna Bronzer
The Murumuru Butter Bronzer from Physicians Formula looks to be a pretty good dupe for the Laguna bronzer.
What Can We Do?
Let NARS know that we’re bummed! It’s important to let brands know we don’t agree with their actions and will no longer support them. I’ll be sending an email to NARS voicing my disappointment and urging them to reconsider their entry into the Chinese market.
Be sure to check out Logical Harmony’s post! She has a great message template you can use to send to the brand, or customize your own message.
